I'm 'Ard, are you?

Alright boyz and girlz, next weekend is 'Ard Boyz, let's do this!

Here is a run down of the missions by Thomas d/b/a Goatboy, basically kill the fuck out of shit. Also, I concur on the WTF victory points, I don't like math.

My Grey Knights won't be finished in time, and I don't have enough to get that extra 500 points out of them. I can swing up to 2000 with them.

On to the list!

Basically this is what I like about Space Wolves, but with lots more of it.

50 scoring boots on the ground, psychic defense, everything that flies disruption bubble, three big ol' bags of hammers, a little back field shenanigans, and lots of fire going down range.

Wargames Con Teams, Wheres my swag?

Alright, we didn't come home covered in glory, but we had a damn fine time, thanks to BoLS for putting on another great convention, though there didn't appear to be goody bags this year either, just stop promising it guys.

Also, on the rules pack it said there was a Fluff Bunny Award, of Paint+Sportsmanship+Presentation- Battle Points, pretty sure we were in the running as we did well on the others and only scored 1 point. But this award was not awarded to anyone.

Bad stuff done, on to the pretty armies.

Here is the hall and a shot of one of the tables, pretty good for such a huge tournament, you can hide behind things, although we never got much of a chance to hide our manticore very well until the last game.

A few of the team armies.
 Eldar and Grey Knights
 All Bikes all the time.
 What won't Orks loot?
 Love the looted raiders.
 Dark/Eldar Harlequins(probabably wyches)
 Very nice DoubleWing
Carebear Army, with Seer Council and Thunderhammer Storm Shield Terminators.

Really love the raiders and the contrast of these two.
Holy crap that's a lot of wolves.

That's all for today, a few more pictures of what else was going on and our games to come shortly.

WARGAMES CON!!!

Tomorrow is the Team Tournament at WarGames Con! Here at dissentingdice we are bringing Space Wolves and Imperial Guard with a legal theme for the team, Bellum Lex(War Law).

Here is our army list, in the style of a federal court document:

Jack and I are heading North and South respectively towards Austin, TX today.
La Belle Republique,  Austin is where I finished up college, and had the best gaming period in my life, I hope to call it home someday, and am excited to get back.

We are headed down to have a good time, get some great games in, see a lot of amazing armies, and meet a lot of great people. We will be doing a battle report for each game, and I will be staying Saturday to cover the Con in general. So bear with us, we have jobs and summer school, so this will take a while to get out but we will have a lot of content in the coming weeks.

Thank you all for your support and readership, this blog has really let us do some gaming work and given both of us a creative impetus. We may not do it all for you but we are glad that we have an audience to share our hobby with.

Be on the look out for us, we will not have shirts like we thought (I messed them up), but if you see the models and huge display board that we have come say hello.

Today I finished painting up my thunderwolf(hoof) cavalry.

I've got two squads of three, each with a powerfist and storm shield, a storm shield, and a meltabomb with magnetized storm shield.
Also three characters, one with frost blade, thunder hammer, and wolf claw, all with storm shields.

This weekend, it's paint time.

Here is a Thunderwolf Cav with magnetized shield I did the other day.

Here is an update on Jack's progress from last week.

Dice Bucket For The Win

Hey everyone! I am in fact not dead. Been working a ton and decided to get to work about 30 min early so I could have sit down and tell you guys about something that was huge for Bryce and I.

Since Wayland games is no longer an option for us Americans Bryce found a new online store, Dice Bucket. Wanted everyone to know that they were great! Cheaper than GW online and delivery took about 5 days. So if anyone else what devistated by the loss of Wayland then I know my reccomendation is to hit up dice bucket.

On a side note, WarCon Doubles tournament is officially on for dissenting dice! The wolves and the guard will get the chance to get to demolished on a more grand scale than normal.

As long as it goes better than the game where Bryce beat me 14 kp to 0 I will consider it a win.

P.S. I also just saw that they now ship internationally. -bp

Tournaments & Paint

Alright, here is a combo army list- painted stuff post.

I think I am going to head to the Railhead Rumble in Dallas June 11-12.

It's a good thing I got a lot of stuff done, here is the overall shot of my finished infantry, squad by squad close ups are coming soon.

We've got wolf guard and special weapons up front, scouts and long fangs to the left and the rest are regular grey hunters.

Here is what I am thinking of taking for the 2000 point 7 game extravaganza at an anime convention.

Space Wolves, Part 1

Alright, gearing up for as much of tournament season as I can get to has got me painting. I've finished up the stuff Jack started and am getting ready to do more. I am getting closer and closer to my first fully ( at least for the time being) painted army.

Here are some thunder wolf cavalry that I did. Two powerfists with storm shields, a normal guy with storm shield, and a character with a wolf claw and storm shield. There are still two regular guys with magnetized storm shields, one more with permanent shield, and two characters, one with frost blade and the other with thunder hammer left to do.

Tourney Season: WGC

Alright, here is the what I am thinking of taking to WargamesCon in Austin this July, I also will be playing in Wasteland Wars here in Lubbock in September, and I want to try my hand at 'Ard Boyz up here in August. So this will be a tournament filled summer. Just need to get things painted.
Wargames is 2000, Wasteland is 1850, and 'Ard Boyz is 2500, I plan to essentially make variations of this list as I really like the elements that are in it.

But today we are starting with Wargames Con, as it is first.

Here is my 1999 point Space Wolf list, I have a few variations that I will put at the bottom, let me know what you think.

So, it's pretty simple, no tricks, just reliable units. That's what I like. A rune priest for disruption(skimmers/BA jumpers/Grey Knights) and defense. Two bags of hammers. Four troops that can handle most things, 4 plasma guns as I am NOW scared of terminators. Scouts to harass, annoy and blow up tanks, speeders to do the same, as well as contest last minute.  Finally some long fangs, you know what they do.

HQ 100+45+30+20+30+35=
260 Wolf lord, 100, TW 45, SS 30, rune armor 20, thunder hammer 30, saga of the bear 35
105 Rune priest, tempest's, lightning, meltabomb

Elites
129 3x Wolf guard, powerfist/ combi-melta
85 5x scouts, meltagun

Troops
160 8x grey hunters, meltagun, rhino
175 9x grey hunters, meltagun, rhino
195 10x grey hunters, 2x plasmaguns, rhino
195 10x grey hunters, 2x plasmaguns, rhino

Fast Attack
270 3x TWC , 3x Storm Shields, Powerfist , meltabomb
70 Speeder, Multi Melta/ Heavy Flamer
70 Speeder, Multi Melta/ Heavy Flamer

Heavy Support
145 5 long fangs, 2 missiles, 2 lascannons
140 6 long fangs 5 missiles

Alternatively, for the Wolf Lord I could take him on a wolf, with shield, armor, a wolf claw, and saga of the beast slayer, for 225 and save 35 points, but I don't think he would his as hard or stand up to as much punishment, but would be more effective against infantry in general.

Stay Classy Rhino.

Here are a couple shots of the first completed rhino that Jack has finished up for me in our "Guard for Painted Wolves Best Gaming Idea Ever" (tm). I give him guard that I was going to ebay anyway, and he finishes up my space wolves, it's amazing.

Thunderwolves Ho!

I got 4 new chaos knights from a guy up at the shop the other night. Here is what I did with them. One is a wolf lord/ TWC with a storm shield and wolf claw. The others are my standard 1 powerfist/ storm shield, 1 storm shield, and 1 meltabomb/storm shield. I am going to magnetize the shields on the last ones so I can shave some points if need be.

Here is a picture of the wolf lord, and also a closer shot of my super crappy but getting better greenstuff work to make his pelt flap in the wind.

Also here is my newest balanced version of my half of out team list. Thoughts?

HQ

1st Team Test. Fail

Alright, Tuesday night Jack and I got to try out our team list. We played up at Challenge games here in Lubbock, against a good fellow named Mitchell. He brought guard and black templars, him against the two of us.

Oh gods the carnage. It was a total wipe out on our part. We got maybe 1 kill point and had I think 1 left at the end of the game.

We played annihilation with spear head deployment.

Here is our lists
HQ
230 Wolf lord 100, TW 45, SS 30, Rune armor 20, frost blade 25, Saga of the Beastslayer 10
100 Rune Priest, Tempest's Wrath, Living lightning.

Troops
120 5 grey hunters, plasmagun 10, rhino 35
80 5 grey hunters, meltagun 5

Fast Attack
235 3 TWC 150, 2 SS 60, PF 25
235 3 TWC 150, 2 SS 60, PF 25

HQ
175 CS 50, autocannon 10, Officer of the Fleet 30, 2 plasmaguns 30, chimera 55, hull heavy flamer

Troops
165 Veterans 70, 3 meltaguns 30, AC 10 chimera 55, hull heavy flamer
165 Veterans 70, 3 meltaguns 30, AC 10 chimera 55, hull heavy flamer
160 Veterans 70, 2 meltaguns 20, 1 flamer 5, AC 10 chimera 55
160 Veterans 70, 2 meltaguns 20, 1 flamer 5, AC 10 chimera 55

Heavy Support
160 Manticore

Mitchell took:
Guard: A lord commissar, 3 standard melta-vet squads, a manticore, and a stock leman russ.
Black Templars: An emperors champion with the preferred enemy vow, 7 terminators 5 LC, 2 Th/SS with furious charge, a venerable dread with a lascannon, missile launcher and tank hunter, and 2 minimum squads of troops.

This was a slaughter. Running my thunderwolves with lord first turn got them just into charge range of the terminators, they all died. Also during his first shooting phase the manticore took out two of the other thunder wolves, the powerfist/SS rider was the only model to survive the game.

Everything just went down hill from there. We tried to put up a defense, but those terminators were in our back lines and chasing the wolf lord off the table, he never ran fast enough to get away.

However, the lone powerfist cavalry model immobilized the land raider, allowing vets to kill it( our only kill point I think), he also killed both of the black templar troops choices on his own.

At one point he passed about 5 or 7 3++ invulnerable saves all at the same time. It was awesome.

Killzone

Galaxy in Flames has a great rule set for skirmish level 40k that Jack and I are going to try out soon. So look for that maybe in the coming weeks, but we've got the MPRE tomorrow and spring break is in two weeks.

But here is my 250 point team and some pictures of work I did on them last night. I still need to put together a plasma gunner and another bolter guy.

Team Leader
Wolf guard, plasma pistol , power weapon , brawler (+1 to wound in close combat)

Lone wolf , terminator armor, powerfist
Longfang , heavy bolter
Longfang, heavy bolter
Grey hunter, flamer
Grey hunter , plasma gun
Grey hunter, Mark of the Wulfen
Grey hunter
Grey hunter
Fenrisian wolf, Ferocious Leap (assault grenades)

This has a good mix of close combat and shooting, as well they are the Emperors swiss army knives with bolters, pistols, and close combat weapons. But having a flamer for the dense terrain recommended, and the two plasma guns for hard targets are nice. The heavy bolters are in a pair as then I can use them for a long fang squad, though I am not so certain about mixing ranges. But in this context they are awesome.

I would like to make this a campaign mordheim style. I think I could basically port over the mordheim rules, but all marines start at 8 experience, and Team leaders use the hero table.

Or just say whatever and play small scale 40k. That might be best to start with.

Here's what I did last night.

Here we have most of the band, from the front left, flamer guy, wulfen berserker, team leader. Middle, bolter guy and lone wolf terminator. In the back is the wolf and both long fangs.

Here is a close up of the flamer and team leader. I used a devastator melta bomb to make a high capacity flamer tank. I think it looks pretty good.

Deployment from Battle Report 2.

This game we played at Challenge Games here in Lubbock.
These are the only pictures we remembered to take.

I'm going to try to explain what is deployed, and why I did it the way I did and how I could have done better.

I cannot exactly remember now what was in each of Jacks transports etc. but I will try.

My Deployment:
Starting from the left in the picture I've got 5 long fangs with 3 missiles and a lascannon, behind them 7 grey hunters and a wolf guard. Back in the ruins another long fang squad with 3 missiles and lascannon.
To the right of the front long fangs is 8 grey hunters, a wolf guard, and the rune priest.
Then both HQ's on wolves, the lord on the left and the battle leader on the right, with the regular cavalry between then on the rocks.
We have another group of long fangs, 4 missiles, and another rhino with 8 grey hunters and a wolf guard.

Alright, here's what I feel that I screwed up. The two back squads of long fangs were very poorly placed, they should have been forward if they could, 48in isn't as long when you are going long ways in spear head.
I could have gotten them forward a bit more, though you can see the big tower in the middle that blocked up LOS pretty well.
I should have kept those rhinos a bit farther back, though I think I deployed defensively fairly well. If I was going second I would have kept the rhinos basically where they are, but gotten the long fangs up farther.

But for getting first turn, I still should have had the rhinos farther back and the long fangs up more for later turns, they ran out of targets in range fairly fast.

Here is Jack's deployment:
Alright some explanation, Jack is working on getting some Rhinos, the white papers are vehicles. The black circle is an ironclad. Starting on the left again, a razorback with lascannons, and squad inside, with a  Multi Melta speeder behind it. Next a rhino in the back with a missile launcher in it.
In the palm trees in the back is the combat squad from the razorback with a missile launcher. Behind them is the master of the forge on a bike.
Next the two rifleman dreads, and another rhino with a few marines in it next to the iron clad up front.
He also has 3 MM/Hf dreads in drop pods.

I'll get him to come comment on why and how he deployed.

I like this list a lot.

Alright, mistakenly thinking that ard boyz was in the spring, I made a 2500 list the other day. I liked a lot of things from it, but it seemed quite out of reach with the 1850 standard that is the nature of things here in Lubbock.

However, I totally made it work. I worked it up from memory in Tax earlier today.
Here is the list after getting the book and being able to get exact numbers.

This does not have my usual standbys of two MM/HF speeders. I like to have them for last minute objective contesting, and mobile long range melta, but this more centralized wave of doom sounds like fun as well.

Space wolves work.

Well, I seem to be having technical difficulties. Is it fixed?

Multi melta wolfguard with power fists.
A chooser of the slain on top of a Dark Eldar whose eyes have been pecked out.
And 3 thunder wolf cavalry with brand new storm shields.
